How can we help?

Guides and answers for digitizing with Qepe, from the first logo to the machine.

Getting started

From a logo to a machine file in five steps.

  1. Choose your machine

In the bar at the top, pick the garment and your machine. Qepe uses its file format, needles and hoops from then on.

  2. Open the logo

File › Open, or drag the PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF or AI file onto the window. The Auto Digitizer opens.

  3. Answer the questions

The size in millimetres, the fabric, how many thread colours, the crop and the lettering. Qepe stitches it on screen.

  4. Check Quality

Open Quality, read what it found, and press Fix all safe problems. Change anything by hand with the tools on the left.

  5. Export

Export writes the machine file and checks it. Sheet makes the approval sheet and the worksheet.

The Quality check

Quality is Qepe’s second opinion. It lays the stitches over the original artwork, as thread on your fabric, and looks for what a customer, an operator or the machine would object to.

The score is a number out of 100 with a verdict beside it, such as Ready to embroider, Check 3 things or Will stitch out badly. Six categories make it up: geometry, settings, density, stitch order, small details and machine.

Each finding names the parts involved, says whether it was measured on the stitches or predicted, explains why it matters on the garment and suggests what to do. Fix all safe problems applies the fixes that cannot make something else worse, then checks again.

Quality is an assessment before production, not a guarantee. Fabric, stabiliser, thread and machine all play their part: for a new customer’s logo, a test stitch-out is still the last word.

The Quality panel: a score of 83 out of 100, six category bars and the Fix all safe problems button.

Questions and answers

The Quality check3 answers

Does Qepe replace a digitizer?

For most logos it does the first pass, and often the whole job. Lettering under about 4 mm and photos still need a digitizer’s eye, and Quality tells you when.

How long does it take to digitize a logo?

In our October 2026 test of 105 real logos, the Auto Digitizer finished more than half of them in under 30 seconds, on one laptop busy with other work; a large, detailed crest can take several minutes. Add the time you take to answer its questions and look over the result.

Do I need to be a digitizer to use Qepe?

No. The Auto Digitizer asks the questions a digitizer would: size, fabric, colours. Quality explains each problem in plain words and what to do about it. When you want full control, satin, fill, block, running stitch, knife and segment are there for every part.

Machines and files6 answers

Which machines does Qepe work with?

Any machine that reads DST, PES, EXP, JEF, VP3, U01, XXX, DSB, TAP or PEC files: for example Tajima, Ricoma, SWF, Happy, Barudan, ZSK, Brother, Melco, Bernina, Janome, Husqvarna, Pfaff and Singer.

What files can I open?

Logos in PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG, PDF and AI; Qepe designs; and machine files from other programs, in about 40 formats.

Which hoops are included?

Round hoops from 9 to 30 cm, square and rectangular frames up to 40 × 50 cm, cap frames and your own sizes. Each machine profile knows its needles and its hoops.

Can I convert a JPG or PNG logo to a DST file?

Yes. Open the JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG, PDF or AI file, set the size, fabric and colours, and the Auto Digitizer turns it into stitches. Export writes the DST (or PES, EXP, JEF, VP3, U01, XXX, DSB, TAP or PEC) and reads it back to check it. Clean artwork gives the best result; lettering under about 4 mm and photos still need a digitizer’s hand.

Which file format does my embroidery machine need?

DST for Tajima, Ricoma, SWF, Happy and most commercial machines; PES for Brother PR; U01 for Barudan; EXP for Melco and Bernina; JEF for Janome; VP3 for Husqvarna and Pfaff; XXX for Singer; DSB for Barudan, Ricoma and ZSK; TAP for Happy; PEC for Brother home machines and cards. Pick your machine in Qepe and it uses the right format, needles and hoops.

Can Qepe convert a PES file to DST?

Yes. Qepe opens machine files in about 40 formats, so a PES, EXP or other file a customer sends opens as a design you can check and export as DST, or in any of the ten formats Qepe writes.

Lettering and fonts2 answers

Can I use any font for lettering?

Qepe comes with 128 Qepe Fonts, made for embroidery, each at the sizes it was digitized for. It can also embroider any font installed on your computer, but many commercial font licences don’t allow embroidery: check the licence before you sell a design made with one.

Can Qepe make one file per name for a team?

Yes. Names writes one machine file for each name in a list, with the text set again in its font, size and place.

Saving and privacy3 answers

What happens if Qepe crashes?

Your unsaved work is kept as a draft moments after each change and comes back the next time Qepe opens. A save never leaves a half-written file.

Is my customer’s artwork sent anywhere?

Not by Qepe. Only Qepe AI sends anything, when you ask it to work on a design, and you can tell it to keep the original artwork on your computer.

Does Qepe need the internet?

Not for the work. Digitizing, checking and exporting all happen on your computer, without a connection. Signing in, the licence check and Qepe AI use the internet.
